The 77th Pakistan Day is being celebrated by the nation on Thursday with national zeal and enthusiasm to mark the passage of the Lahore Resolution that led to the creation of a separate homeland for the Muslims of South Asia in 1947.
The historic resolution, known as the Pakistan Resolution, was approved on March 23, 1940.
The Day dawned with 31-gun salute in Islamabad and 21-gun salute in provincial capitals.
Special prayers were offered in mosques after Fajr prayers for the progress, prosperity and solidarity of the country.
Decorated contingents of Pakistan Army, Pakistan Navy and Pakistan Air Force (PAF) lined up in Shakarparian Ground, Islamabad for Pakistan Day Parade in presence of Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif, Chief of Army Staff Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa and Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Mohammad Zakaullah and conducted march-past.
Ambassadors of different countries and Defense Minister Khawaja Asif among other federal ministers are also present in the parade ground.
People’s Liberation of Army China, Saudi and Turkish troops also featured in the parade.
A fly-past of Pakistan Air Force was presented to President Mamnoon Hussain over the parade venue and was led by Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Sohail Aman.
The parade is organised by joint staff headquarters in Rawalpindi, which oversees the three armed forces of Pakistan.
Pakistan in 2015, held its first Pakistan Day parade after a hiatus of seven years. The display of pageantry aimed at showing the country has the upper hand in the fight against terrorists as the nation reeled from the worst militant attack in its history as 142 children were killed in an army-run school in Peshawar.
The annual Pakistan Day parade was last held in 2008 before authorities abandoned it because of fears it could be targeted as militants increased their attacks on the military.
