Govt continues efforts to eliminate child labour

Provincial Minister for Labour and Human Resource Raja Ashfaq Sarwar presided a meeting here on Wednesday to review the elimination of child labour from workshops, petrol pumps, and restaurants.

A detailed review of the issuance of Khidmat Cards was conducted. The meeting was informed that data of up to 87,000 children had been collected. Most of them have been issued cards whereas the remaining cards will be handed over after due process. All concerned departments were found to be performing their duties diligently. The provincial minister lauded the role played by NADRA in the efforts to eliminate child labour.

The minister said that lethargy would not be tolerated in this regard. Everyone should play their role for the achievement of the cause, he said. It is the prime responsibility of Punjab government and especially the labour department to uproot the menace of child labour from society, he added. All concerned departments should share their data consistently in order to avoid any discrepancies Sarwar directed. The minister further directed the bureau of statistics, education department and labour department to enroll 9,445 children into schools and brief him daily regarding the enrollment.

The labour secretary, school education department secretary, NADRA DG, Urban Unit CEO, PSPA CEO PSPA, Punjab education foundation managing director, Punjab bureau of statistics DG, TEVTA GM and representatives of the PITB also attended the meeting.
