Inhumane and outdated customs to be dismantled: minister

Provincial Environment Protection and Population Welfare Minister Begum Zakia Shahnwaz has said that the government is striving to empower women through education and legislation.

A comprehensive reforms program is underway to protect the rights of women according to the needs of the era, she said addressing a seminar at Punjab University here on Tuesday.

The minister said that the role of women for the progress of the country was inevitable. We have to dismantle outdated and inhumane customs to establish a progressive society, the minister elaborated, adding that the government was keen to form laws to protect and rehabilitate women in this regard.

“Women play a pivotal role in the progress and construction of every nation in every sphere of life. It is the need of the hour to educate every woman about her legal rights to abolish their mistreatment. Women’s empowerment will root out domestic violence, poverty, and corruption.
