Conference on Firdowsi continues at LCWU

The three-day international conference on the ‘Commemoration of Firdowsi Toosi’ organised by the Lahore College for Women University (LCWU)’s Persian department and the Cultural Centre of the Islamic Republic of Iran continued here on Tuesday.

Punjab Education Minister Raza Ali Gillani, LCWU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Rukhsana Kausar, Iran Counsel General Bani Asadi, and Walled City Authority Director Kamran Lashari spoke on the occasion, while the heads of various departments and professors of several universities attended the function.

Addressing the event, the speakers said that Pakistan and Iran can collaborate in numerous academic areas like technology, literature, art and research. Both countries have a common literary and cultural heritage as Sheikh Saadi and Allama Muhammad Iqbal are equally popular in both countries, they said.

They highlighted the importance of Iran-Pakistan relations and the Persian language, and declared Firdowsi an asset and his Shahnama a symbol of the two countries’ common historical heritage.
