Over 200 passengers escaped death or serious injuries when engines of the Pakistan International Airlines’ (PIA) flight PK-305 failed on Saturday, Pakistan Today has learnt. According to sources, the Karachi-bound Airbus 310 returned to airport 30 minutes after takeoff owing to a “serious problem with both engines”.
The source said he was seated on the jump seat allowing him to listen to cabin crew’s conversations. He disclosed that the flight took-off at around 6pm from Lahore and passengers had unfastened their seat belts when, suddenly, the plane started decelerating and descending . The passenger said that suddenly the phone near the jump seat rang and the airhostess attending the phone broke down. He asked the airhostess, “What happened?”, but she could not reply.
But when he asked again, she replied that both the engines had failed. He said the captain announced the plane had some technical problems and passengers must fasten their seat belts and stay calm. The lights in the tail side went off but after 30 minutes, the aircraft landed prematurely at Lahore airport. Upon landing at Lahore airport, passengers were informed that the flight would take off again at 10pm but it finally took off at 1:45am. The PIA spokesperson was not available for comments despite many attempts.
