Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) Women Wing President Farukh Khan said that the dream of development and inclusive democracy could not come true until the gender equality is ensured in Pakistan.

She said that the under-representation of women in parliament was a poor reflection of the promise of gender equality and parity; hence the government and all political parties needed to realise their responsibility to address that imbalance forthwith.

She expressed these views while speaking as a chief guest in a seminar organized by Islamabad Chamber of Commerce here, which was also attended by Senator Nuzhat Sadiqi as the guest of honour.

Islamabad Chamber of Commerce praised Farukh Khan and Nuzhat Sadiqi for their role in women empowerment and presented shields to them in recognition of their services in this regard.

She said that as a political party, PML-Q always supported and encouraged women. Farrukh Khan said that the PML-Q was the first political party which passed women empowerment bill and added that the women related bills passed by the subsequent governments were actually the offshoots of this bill.

She said that the purpose to observer International Women Day was to empower women politically, economically and socially, so as that they could play their role in all spheres of life effectively and positively.

She said that whatsoever the legislations made for women empowerment it needed to be implemented in true spirit, adding women should be empowered economically, so that they could play effective role in making Pakistan an economically viable country.
