The Chief Of Naval Staff Golf Championship in progress at the awesome Royal Palm Golf and Country Club Golf Course is turning out to be a nursery event for potential champions. It has succeeded in providing an environment where young players like Muhammed Rehman and Waseem Rana and Sufian Dhaduk have produced some excellent golf and shown their skills over two rounds, winning admiration of many experts and sponsors but competition wise Muhammed Rehman of Royal Palm has emerged as the front runner, going into the final phase on Sunday. Muhammed Rehman is a player who has inherited his lean frame from his father Gul Muhammed, a golf champion of the seventies and eighties and with his coaching and Royal Palms support his game has benefited, the reflection appearing in his performance over the past two highly competitive rounds.
On the first day Rehman carded a round of 71 and virtually duplicated his score on the second day with methodical shot making and consistently delicate touch on the greens which fetched him three birdies, 13 pars and of course mistake-oriented two bogies, a total two rounds aggregate of 142 and a two-stroke lead over his nearest rival Waseem Rana, moving towards the final outing on Sunday.
Undoubtedly, Rehman’s nearest rivals, Waseem and Sufian Dhadek have also made spirited efforts and though lagging behind, they have avoided any serious tumble and looked solid and really fearsome competitors.
Waseem and Sufian both carded a 71 on the second day and it was only the first day’s stroke deficit that they have been unable to wipe out. As far as the top standings go, Muhammed Rehman is at 142, Waseem Rana at 144, Sufian Dhadek at 145, Capt Anser Mehmood 150, Wazir Ali 152, Sajid Khan 154, Azhar Bokhari 154, Raheel Ikram 154, Shahid Khan 155, Omer Salamat 156 and Sardar Murad 156.
