The International Dance Day was celebrated at the Avari Hotel by the Pakistan National Council of Arts (PNCA) in collaboration with the Federal Information and Broadcasting Ministry on Friday. Former chief of army staff (COAS) General (r) Jahangir Karamat, former federal minister Sartaj Aziz and others attended the event. Various performers depicted their talent through wonderful performances. The audience enjoyed and appreciated the performances while foreigners also came to the hotel to witness the variety of dances. The International Dance Day is celebrated by the International Dance Council on April 29 every year.
According to PNCA officials, the organisation aims to build a robust art ecosystem by creating an environment conducive for flourishing of arts. Implementation of international cultural agreements under advice of the federal government is also PNCA’s aim. Eye catchy performances included Kathak, Peacock, Aaj Rang Hai, Raaga Rock, Piya Nahin Aye, Ustad Shabbir Hussain Jhari on Table, Ustad Akbar Ali Khan on Sitar, Anarkali, Bari Thani Chale Aa, Faiz, Ijaz Ali Khan’s classical singing, Salsa and City Nights.
Aims of the International Dance Day include increasing awareness of the importance of dance among the general public and to influence governments all over the world to provide a proper platform for dance in all systems of education. The dance evening at Avari Hotel’s Khurshid Mahal was full of entertainment, which showed the talent of Pakistani dancers. According to the people, true classical dance not only entertains but also raises awareness about social issues. They said that the variety of dances under one roof was unprecedented before.
