The Supreme Court on Friday stayed balloting of plots being given to 2,000 employees of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and directed the CDA chairman to appear in court along with a complete record of the case on May 4. A two-member Supreme Court bench of Justice Nasirul Mulk and Justice Jawwad S Khawaja was hearing a petition filed by Zahooruddin and six others, former employees of CDA, challenging the balloting of plots scheduled to be held on April 29 (Friday).
Rai Muhammad Nawaz Kharral, lawyer for the petitioners, told the court that in 1990, CDA allotted plots to its employees in Sector I-11 that was under the occupation of hundreds of Afghan refugees. He said the employees had paid their total dues and even retired, but CDA had so far failed to take possession of the land from the Afghan refugees and hand it over it to the original allotees. However, through nepotism, CDA allotted alternate plots to some of the affected people, he said, adding that CDA also allotted plots to dozens of officials who joined the authority on deputation.
