Students of the 21st century are fast paced and prone to electronic gadgets due to which this generation is termed as Generation Y and they are consistently learning new ways to be successful in life, former State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) chief manager Munir Ahmed said on Friday. He was addressing students at the Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) Auditorium. Munir said that it is need of the hour that youth have virtual information in every aspect and they are proving how and why students consume most of their time sending e-mails, watching television and using cellular phones. Focusing on importance of reading, he stressed upon the need for reading books in today’s era and showed various video clips for better understanding and learning of students. The former SBP chief manager presented an informative presentation of facts, history and steps to achieve success in life.
Terming the Greek civilisation as the first civilisation of the world, Munir discussed the self-mastery formula to “Know thyself, Control thyself and Give thyself”. He quoted poetry of Allama Iqbal, gave references from the Holy Quran and Ahadith and suggested students some useful books including Five Principles by Peter Drucker, 8 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey, 5 Levels of Literal Thinking by Edward De Bono and From Good to Great by Jim Collins. Earlier, LCWU Economics Department Head Talat Yazdani presented her welcome address. The interactive session included answers from students to the very interesting learning based question, “Why the tortoise could not cross the road?”
