The defending champion Pakistan has outclassed Nepal in the opening match of the West Asia Baseball Cup started here at Pakistan Sports Complex on Saturday.
Pakistan won the first match by sealing 16-1 points and registering a comfortable victory against Nepal on the opening day of 13th edition of West Asia Baseball Cup-2017.
Five teams—including Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Iran, and Iraq—are participating in the mega-regional event, which was inaugurated by Federal Minister for Inter-provincial Coordination Riaz Hussain Pirzada here in a colourful ceremony.
India’s participation in the event was confirmed, however, they could not arrive owing to visa issues. The final will be played on March 1, 2017.
Waseem Ali, in his international debut match, scored a home run to guide his team to a convincing victory against Nepal.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, the minister said that Pakistan, being a sports-loving country, could host international events as there is no security issue.
Welcoming the guest teams, he expressed optimism that they would entertain the spectators with their performance.
Pakistan Baseball Federation President Syed Khawar Shah, Pakistan Sports Board DG Akhtar Nawaz Ganjera, PSB Deputy Director General Shahid Islam, diplomats from Nepal, Iraq and Sri Lanka were also present on the occasion.
Talking to Pakistan Today, Nepal captain Iswor Thapa appreciated Pakistan Baseball Federation and Pakistan Sports Board for hosting the international event.
He said that Nepal team participated in international events in Pakistan several times and always found the country to be a sports-loving country, and never felt any issue regarding security.
