Austrian ambassador calls on CM

A delegation led by Austrian Ambassador Dr Brigitta Blaha called on Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif here on Saturday.

The Austrian delegation showed its interest in extending cooperation in hydropower projects and the production of electricity from solid waste. The Austrian ambassador also invited the Chief Minister to visit Austria.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister said that Pakistan and Austria had friendly relations but there was a need to further extend trade and economic ties between the two countries. He said that there was tremendous potential for small hydropower projects in Punjab. Investment and cooperation in these small hydropower projects from Austria would be welcomed and Punjab would also like to benefit from Austrian expertise for the generation of electricity through solid waste, he said.

The chief minister directed the constitution of a committee to promote cooperation in this regard and to finalise feasible recommendations with regard to small hydropower and waste to energy projects.

The Austrian Ambassador extended his sympathies over recent incidents of terrorism and condoled with the families of those had died.

Provincial Minister for Planning and Development Malik Nadeem Kamran, the energy secretary, and other officials were also present on the occasion.
