A two-day international conference on research and practices in education will be held here today (Friday) at Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU).
It is a part of the university’s consistent efforts to overcome knowledge-gap between developed and developing countries in relevant discipline as well as promoting quality education and ensuring `Education for All’, a press release Thursday said. The conference is being arranged in collaboration with Higher Education Commission, which will be attended by the prominent educationists from the US, Canada, Australia and China and key-note speakers.
It will be an opportunity to find out ways and means to link the research’s findings with society’s socio-economic development, Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Shahid Siddiqui reviewing the conference’s arrangements said.
He hoped that the event would enable the participants to rethink about the educational impact in bringing social change through education.
Recently, the university has focused on construction and disseminating of knowledge through publication of research journals and holding research-based conferences. It published nine journals and held twelve national and international conferences during the last two years.
The university has provided special incentive package to its faculty members as an encouragement to focus more on research-based activities.
According to Education Dean Dr Nasir Mahmood the conference would deliberate upon the possible community-university linkages and practices. The university has invited about 300 researchers, scholars and professionals from home and abroad to present their work in various forms including oral paper presentations, round table discussions, and poster presentations.
