A division bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) sought reply from the National Accountability Bureau on Thursday by May 11 on an application seeking direction to revoke NAB Ordinance 1999 and judicial or administrative orders passed by NAB, on the grounds that the ordinance was promulgated by an ‘unconstitutional’ president Pervez Musharraf.
Bench comprising Chief Justice Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhry and Mazhar Iqbal Sidhu passed this order on the application filed by Muhammad Altaf, who filed his application in his already pending petition against NAB, wherein LHC had suspended investigation against him. Altaf said that NAB had become redundant because its formation was not complete. He said office of the chairman had been vacant since long, while appointment of NAB’s director general was also challenged in LHC.
