Security in the federal capital has been put on high alert to thwart any untoward incident, a police source said.

Additional police contingents were deployed in sensitive areas and at important buildings after the terrorism incident in Lahore on Monday. Inspector General of Police (IGP) Tariq Masood Yasin has directed senior officials to ensure comprehensive security arrangements in their respective jurisdictions.

Islamabad SSP Sajid Kiani has been directed to supervise the security arrangements in coordination with all SPs. Following these directions, the police have begun strict checking at all the entry and exit points in the city. Similarly, patrolling in the city has been increased. Police commandos have been deputed around sensitive locations and important buildings while policemen equipped with sophisticated weapons will also perform duties on rooftops.

Special police teams constituted by each police station will patrol their respective jurisdictions for effective security. Secondary vehicle teams have been ordered to remain vigilant and ready to tackle any untoward situation while a squad of falcon vehicles from Rescue 15 have also been directed to strict patrols and keeping in touch with SHOs for ensuring security.

The IGP has also directed effective coordination among all wings of Islamabad’s police including operational police, CID, security division and the special branch.

He has appealed the citizens to extend their full co-operation to the police and immediately inform Rescue 15 or concerned police stations about any suspicious activity around them.
