ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has reiterated its commitment to continue to work for peace and stability in Afghanistan.

Speaking to media in Islamabad, Foreign Office spokesperson Nafees Zakaria said Pakistan will continue to work with international community and the Afghan government to make 2017 a year of cooperation for peace, security and stability in the region.

He said Pakistan’s resolve to defeat terrorism remains unwavering and the emerging terrorist networks, like the Islamic State would not deter it from continuing the valiant struggle against this menace.

He said Islamabad welcomes the sentiments of all those who have expressed a desire to work with Pakistan to eliminate terrorism.

Nafees Zakaria said we have taken note of the voices recommending a holistic review of the US policy to see how Islamabad and Washington can work together to promote peace and security in the region for the benefit of both countries.

However, he expressed disappointment over some of the assertions made in the recent discussions about terrorist safe havens in Pakistan and termed these as misplaced and not in sync with the current situation on the ground.
