The Lahore Police has re-acquired Police Welfare Petrol Pump located in Mughalpura, Pakistan Today has learnt. Police sources said on Wednesday that the petrol pump was re-acquired by the Lahore Police after a gap of about two and half years. Police Welfare Petrol Pump was established in 1986 and was then being run by the Lahore Police. About two and half years ago, former capital city police officer Muhammad Pervaiz Rathore, on the suggestions of the then SP Admin, handed the petrol pump over to the PSO administration to run it. The idea was to earn more money as compared to the earning of that time and also to reduce involvement of policemen in the administration of the pump.
Sources said that the recent leadership of the Lahore Police after seeing the loss, finally decided to take it back from PSO and started running it at their own. Workers at the pump told Pakistan Today that when the site was established, Pakistan State Oil (PSO) funded all civil works at the site and later handed it over to the Lahore Police. Sources said that the profit from the said petrol pump has increased to Rs 1 million and the earning was added to the account of Police Welfare Fund. Sources said that pump’s value has increased due to its increasing income and because of ongoing wave of terrorism. Sources said that whatsoever petrol pump earns from its sale helps policemen in getting their problems solved.
Sources said that 80 percent of the petrol pump’s total sale was attributable to the Lahore Police’s personal vehicles, as every vehicle on patrolling and every vehicle of police stations get 8 litres of petrol per day. A DSP gets 15 litres and one SP gets 20 litres petrol on daily basis.
