Pakistan says any expansion in permanent seats of the United Nations Security Council is a “red line” for it.
Participating in the Intergovernmental Negotiations on the Security Council reforms in the UN, Pakistan’s permanent representative to the world body, Maleeha Lodhi said such expansion will undermine the principles of democracy and accountability.
She called for developing a clearer understanding on the red lines of all member states.
She said Pakistan’s approach has always been to address the fundamental questions on the reform.
The ambassador said if these questions are addressed in an open, objective and pragmatic manner, the broad contours of a possible reform model would emerge quite easily.
