Better days ahead for US-Pak relations under Trump administration: Ambassador Jillani

WASHINGTON: Pakistani Ambassador in the United States Jalil Abbas Jillani said on Monday that the US-Pak relations successfully achieved stability in recent years.

The Envoy was speaking at a farewell dinner for the Pakistani journalists at the embassy. “There has been now a high degree of recognition for Pakistan in the USA. Pakistani sacrifices against terrorism are now noted here” the Ambassador remarked.

“The economic revival in Pakistan is being appreciated by the international community and global economic institutions.” he said. “I am glad to say that the American-Pakistanis also played their vital role for a better image perception of the country.”

He added that there are indicators of good relations with Pakistan with the Trump administration. “If you see the republican presidential manifesto, there are two paragraphs on Pakistan in a very positive light.

Ambassador Jilani briefed the Pakistani Journalists about the historic nature of relationship between Pakistan & US spanning over 07 decades. Bilateral relations between US and Pakistan had improved significantly over the last few years.

He said now there was a greater understanding in the US about the role played by Pakistan in a global fight against terrorism and the challenges faced by Pakistan in this regard. The revival of the Strategic Dialogue in 2013 had laid down a strong foundation of the fresh start to further strengthen ties between the two countries.

The ambassador also drew attention of the participants towards Six Working Groups between Pak & US which are working for advancing interests of both the countries in different fields namely Economy, Finance & Trade, Energy Sector Cooperation, Counter Terrorism and Law Enforcement Cooperation, Defence Cooperation, Nuclear Cooperation & cooperation in the fields of Education, Science & Technology.

Jilani underscored that there was a renewed interest in Pakistan due to the recent economic turnaround in the country. There was a positive feedback from the International institutions like IMF and World Bank as Pakistan has been regarded as one of the fast emerging economies. The US Media also paid rich tribute to marked improvement in Pakistan’s economy. Many credit rating agencies have upgraded the credit rating of Pakistan which is again a reflection of renewed trust in Pakistan’s burgeoning economy, he elaborated.

Ambassador Jilani remarked that Pakistan was looking forward to working closely with the new US Administration.
