CM reviews promotion, regulation of industry

Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif presided over a meeting here on Monday to review the steps being taken for the promotion and regulation of industries and proposals for industrial zoning.

Addressing the meeting, the chief minister said that the industrial sector plays an important role in the strengthening of the economy and provision of employment. He said that the promotion of the industrial sector and industrial zoning are the need of the hour.

The chief minister ordered a review of industrial zoning on industries established on the Lahore-Sheikhupura Road. “The cabinet committee headed by Provincial Minister for Industries Sheikh Allauddin are to present their final recommendations in next ten days in this regard,” he added.

An extension plan for Sundar Industrial Estate will also be formulated and special attention is being paid to set up new industries in the Chunian Industrial Estate. The chief minister said that steps should be taken for industries to abide by water treatment, labour laws, and other rules and regulations. “Bans on industries without NOCs should be strictly implemented,” he said.

He said that it is the responsibility of the concerned departments to implement existing laws. “Implementation of environmental rules and regulations in industries should also be ensured,” he added.

Provincial Ministers Sheikh Allauddin, Zakia Shahnawaz, Ayesha Ghaus Pasha, Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz’s Khawaja Ahmad Hasaan, the chief secretary, secretaries of other relevant departments and the president of the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry also attended the meeting, while the planning and development chairman participated in the meeting through a video link.
