The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has given clean chit to former chief executive officer (CEO) of Alternative Energy Development Board (AEDB) Arif Allauddin from corruption charges and the Ministry of Interior has removed his name from the Exit Control List (ECL).

Available official documents revealed that the NAB has closed the corruption case against former CEO AEDB Arif Allauddin owing to insufficient evidences and declared him innocent. Moreover, the NAB has requested the Interior Ministry removal of his name from ECL, saying inquiry has been closed.

“Finding recommendations from the bureau (NAB), Interior Ministry has also removed the name of former chief executive officer (CEO) , AEDB, Arif Allauddin from the ECL”, the sources said.

The documents also disclosed that the NAB (Rawalpindi) has asked the NAB headquarter (Islamabad) to release the Rs10million security deposited by Arif Allauddin for permission to go abroad on compassionate ground.

“Permission to release the security deposit to accused (Arif Allauddin) is also requested”, said the documents.

Arif Allauddin is said to be a close acquaintance of former president and PPP Co-Chairperson Asif Ali Zardari.

Allaudin was charged under allegations of corruptions, misuse of power, corruption in appointments, irregularities in the award of different tenders of various projects, extension to LoI( letter of interest) and LoS (letter of support) of some companies etc. And, the bureau (NAB) initiated an inquiry against Allauddin on the observations of the incumbent ministry of water and power.

The Ministry of Water and Power led by Kh Asif and Ch Abid Sher Ali of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz showed displeasure over the actions/role of Allaudin.

The ministry forwarded its observations against Arif Allauddin to the NAB, seeking investigation to ascertain the facts over alleged irregularities and corruption charges. And, the NAB launched inquiry against him and also recommended the Ministry of Interior to place his name on the ECL.

However, now NAB has given clean chit to Arif Allauddin and his name has been removed from the ECL. But, the Rs10 million security is still pending with the NAB, said the sources.

Sources privy to the development informed that the NAB had once sought Rs10 million security from Arif Allauddin when he wanted to go abroad to see ailing mother. Arif Allauddin deposited the amount with the NAB headquarter.

“Now his name has been removed and soon his money will be handed over by the bureau to him (Arif Allauddin) after necessary procedure involved in this regard,” the sources said.

When Arif Allaudin was contacted, who is currently living abroad, to get his words over acquittal from corruption charges, found unaware about his acquittal.

Allaudin said that the NAB has still not informed him about the date of release of the security amount.
