Punjab Assembly adopts two bills, extends three ordinances

The Punjab Assembly during its session passed two bills and granted extensions to three ordinances on Wednesday.

Moved by Provincial Law Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan, the passed bills were The Punjab Urban Immovable Property Tax (Amendment) Bill 2016 (No 47 of 2016) and The Punjab Urban Immovable Property Tax (Amendment) Bill 2016 (No 48 of 2016).

Jamat-e-Islami Parliamentary leader Dr Wasim Akhtar was speaking when the chair deferred the third bill, The Punjab Civil Administration Bill 2017, till the next sitting for debate.

A total of five bills were to be presented before the house for their passage.

The house extended the validity period of three ordinances for a further period of ninety days. The ordinances were for the extension of the Punjab Land Records Authority Ordinance 2016, resolution for the extension of the Punjab Urban Immovable Property Tax (Amendment) Ordinance 2016 and resolution for the extension of the Punjab Civil Administration Ordinance 2016.

Earlier, the eighth sitting of the 26th session of the current assembly started with Speaker Rana Muhammad Iqbal chairing the session.

Leader of the opposition Mian Mehmoodur Rashid wanted to table a supplementary resolution regarding the recent hike in POL prices but on the objection of the law minister, the speaker did not entertain him and the entire opposition boycotted the proceedings.

The house deferred an adjournment motion submitted by a PML-N lawmaker.

On completion of day’s agenda, the speaker adjourned the sitting till the next morning (Thursday).
