KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senior leader Faisal Vawda was recently spotted riding a heavy motorbike while being guarded by at least four security vehicles, including police mobiles, in Karachi’s Zamzama area.

“I have been attacked a couple of times recently and have such security with me for the last 20 years,” Vawda told media on Monday.

Justifying his action, the PTI leader said he was fond of sports cars and bikes. “I am also a human being; I also have the heart to go out and enjoy the good weather,” he said, adding that people had made an issue out of a routine ride “due to jealousy”.

Vawda said he had the same protocol and security with him even before being affiliated with the PTI.

PTI chairman Imran Khan is oft-quoted for his persistent claims against the VIP culture in the country but often his own high-ranked leaders seem to defy the popular claim.

In December 2015, Imran vowed to impose a ban on stopping traffic for VIPs following a minor girl’s death in Karachi because of Pakistan People’s Party chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s convoy.

Similarly, the PTI chairman vowed in 2016 to quash such protocol for himself, saying he would no longer travel with high security.
