The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Sindh has recommended that Badin be included among the districts of the province that are vulnerable to a tsunami threat.
After reviewing 50 high-risk districts, Kashmore, Ghotki, Sukkur, and Shikarpur were recommended to be included in the list of high-risk districts due to their vulnerability witnessed in the floods last year.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Sindh while giving recommendations to the chairman of the National Disaster Management Authority said that the threat of tsunami to Badin district cannot be overruled.
Syed Sajjad Haider Shah, the director operations of the PDMA Rehabilitation Department wrote this in a letter to the federal disaster management authority.
He said in the letter that out of the 50 high-risk districts, nine belong to Sindh and the newly recommended riverine districts have also been found quite vulnerable during the floods so they too should be considered at high risk.
On the terms of reference of CBDRM provincial staff, it was recommended that some measures may be intimated accordingly and the observations include identification of salary package and other allowances to the PDMA. The clause of health fitness should be included whereby medical examination prior to appointment should be made mandatory.
