Sindhi nationalists and the Awami National Party have called for a fresh census – one that should be carried out under the supervision of Pakistan Army and Pakistan Rangers – over what they termed as a process that has been prejudiced and bungled.
The ANP on Tuesday also announced supporting the strike call issued by Sindhi nationalist parties on April 30. In a statement issued from Bacha Khan Markaz, the ANP said that a joint delegation of Sindhi nationalist parties reached met with ANP leaders at Bacha Khan Markaz.
Both parties agreed that the City District Government Karachi (CDGK) had been partial and prejudiced in carrying out the census. The ANP assured Sindhi nationalists that any conspiracy to declare them as a minority in the metropolis will be foiled. Leaders of both parties also expressed their disbelief that the census process had been “successfully completed” in no-go areas of the city.
