President Asif Ali Zardari on Tuesday night approved the extension in service of four Lahore High Court and two Sindh High Court additional judges for a period of one year. President’s spokesman Farhatullah Babar said the decision was taken consequent upon the Supreme Court’s verdict and on the advice of the prime minister.
Earlier, the Parliamentary Commission on Judges’ Appointment had not accepted the recommendations of the Judicial Commission of Pakistan to extend the tenure of these six additional judges of Lahore and Sindh High Courts. Those given extension include Justices Mamoon Rashid Sheikh, Farrukh Irfan Khan, Syed Mazhar Ali Akbar Naqvi and Yawar Ali of the LHC and Justices Salman Hamid and Mohammed Tasnim of SHC.
