The Karachi division administration of Pakistan Railways (PR) in its attempt to beef up the security arrangements on the Cantonment Station premises has installed electronic barriers and more than 100 Close Circuit Television Cameras (CCTVs) at its public parking lot.
PR Karachi Divisional Commercial Officer Nasir Nazir said on Tuesday that the department with a view to facilitate the citizens in general has installed the electronic system for which a nominal fee was being charged.
“There is, however, no fee for those bringing in their vehicles to drop the passengers,” he said. He said with the objective to ensure proper maintenance of the system Pakistan Railways as per its policy was in process to hire services of private contractor.
The contract, he said would be for five years and the approved party would be required to pay a fixed amount to the department on annual basis. This will be part of money collected as parking fees, by the contractor, he said.
Nasir Nazir said that parking fees worth Rs 10 would be charged for motorcycles and rickshaws; Rs 30 for motor cars; Rs 40 for Suzuki pick-ups and Rs 50 for buses.
He said once the planned security arrangement was turned functional barricades erected outside the main building of the railway station would be removed so that bona-fide passengers may no more face any difficulty.
