The Pakistan Cricket Board has refuted claims that it has sent a letter to the International Cricket Council after statements by Cricket Australia CEO James Sutherland, who said that Pakistan was not doing enough to prevent spot-fixing. An official of the board said that although his statement is irritating but they have not sent any letter to the ICC. However, he said that the board was planning to send the letter in a day or so and it may respond to the statement after consulting its legal team if the ICC does not do so.
The official said Sutherland’s statement gave a very negative impression about Pakistan cricket and amounted to slander. He said that the board would take up the matter during the next ICC board meeting as it was disappointed by Sutherland’s statement. Surprisingly, Pakistan cricket found a supporter in former Indian captain Bishen Singh Bedi who criticised Sutherland’s statement. “I think it is time there was a common front against such things. Australia, England and other western boards have to realise that they cannot make such statements and maintain their holier than thou attitude,” Bedi said last week.
