KARACHI: Heavy rains in the city, have adversely affected routine life of the citizens, along with inundating low-lying residential houses and turning roads and streets into pools.

Despite a passage of 24 hours, the authorities failed to drain out the water from the provincial capital’s roads.

Due to poor sanitary conditions, people residing in low-lying areas had to face problems, as water entered their houses. Roads and streets looked like lakes due to the accumulation of water.

However; government’s claims of draining the water were left hollow as various roads including Old City area and University road were submerged into rain water.

No arrangements were seen to drain out the water from the roads as the staff and machinery were witnessed missing from the scene.

Trains’ schedule at the Cantt station was also affected with the Sukkur Express arriving after a delay of six and a half hour.

The passengers waited for prolonged hours at the station in trembling cold.

Moreover, the power supply to the major areas of Karachi has remained suspended due to rainfall on the second consecutive day as well.

Over 200 feeders tripped early Saturday morning and Karachi plunged into darkness as the city received first winter shower.

The intermittent rain continued in major areas of Karachi on the second day here on Saturday, hence, the power breakdown was witnessed in Orangi Town, Site, Nazimabad, North Nazimabad, Landhi, Korangi, New Karachi and Sarjani Town.
