Rangers’ policing powers

It has been reported that the policing power of Rangers has been extended for another three months in Karachi by the Sindh government. It is a shame that the situation in the city has deteriorated to such an extent that the paramilitary has to function on behalf of the police and on continuous basis. It would be more appropriate if the government would concentrate on revamping the police, instead of relying on the Rangers, whose primary job is not to police the population. In the long run it will also prove to be more effective if the police are better equipped to handle the security situation in the city.
