Provincial Minister for Education and Literacy, Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar, said all private schools have to teach Sindhi language, Nazra Quran and Islamiat in their schools.

He said this during a meeting with representatives of private schools here at the Sindh Secretariat on Wednesday. Special Secretaries Aliya Shahid and Zakir Hussain Shah, DG Private Institutions Dr Mansoob Siddiqui, Jamil Yousuf Chairman Trust School, Chairman All Sindh Private Schools Khalid Shah, and others attended the meeting.

DG Private Institutions informed the attendants that almost all private schools were teaching Sindhi language and action would be taken against any schools that violated the policy if his department received any complaints.

The minister directed the Special Secretary to coordinate with the Home Department in issuing arms licences to private schools’ managements on a priority basis. He said that the school managers should ensure the safety of the students, and should comply with the home department directives, while furnishing details to the concerned police departments and Rangers.

The education minister also called for compliance with Sindh High Court’s judgement regarding increase in tuition fees and enforcement of the Sindh Private Educational Institutions Ordinance 2001 (amended 2003 and 2005).

He said for better coordination, the gap between private schools and the Sindh education department has to be decreased.

Earlier, Jam Mehtab put in a surprise visit to the education department’s offices and discovered that more than 30 employees including additional secretary, section officers and other staff were late comers.

He directed the special secretary to issue ‘explanation letters’ to staff that came in late or were absent. He also expressed his resentment over cleanliness and ordered action against those who were responsible for the mess he found on departmental property.
