A constitutional petition was moved in the Sindh High Court on Saturday, pleading to compensate the heirs of the victims of a bomb blast that had occurred at a Rummy Club on April 21, killing 19 and injuring over 40.
The petition, moved by United Human Rights Commission of Pakistan Secretary General Rana Faizul Hasan, sought compensation of Rs 2 million for every deceased victim’s heirs and sufficient compensation for the injured victims’ families.
Quoting news reports, Hasan said that the area police never raided the gambling den because it was operating under the law enforcers’ protection, for which the den owner paid them million of rupees.
The petitioner pleaded registering cases and taking appropriate action against the club owner and the area police officials, and asked the court to seal the club.
He said that the gambling club, owned by Haji Ramzan and being run by Ejaz Memon and Waseem, had been operating for over 50 years.
He cited the chief secretary, the home secretary, the inspector general of police and Ramzan among others as respondents.
