The Punjab government will be launching a pilot project to figure out the most effective methods of minimising the impact of climate change on the agricultural sector.

An amount of Rs 99.96 million has been approved for the pilot project, an official of the Punjab Planning and Development Department told APP here on Sunday.

He said that under the pilot project, modern techniques of rainwater management in cotton fields will be applied.

He said that outcome of the application of these modern techniques will enable the experts to analyse their impact and compile the relevant data. The data will then be planning future courses of action.

He said that the success of the pilot project would pave the way for launching more projects of a similar nature.

The Punjab Provincial Development Working Party has given a go ahead for this project by approving these funds, he added. The approval was given in a meeting of the Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) for the current fiscal year (2016-17).
