The management of Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC) has urged the Traffic deputy inspector general of police to remove illegal taxi and auto-rickshaw stands outside the healthcare as traffic jam has become a routine in the vicinity during rush hours due to these illegal stands.

A letter written by JPMC administration to the Traffic DIG stated, “This is to bring to your notice and as you are already aware that JPMC is public sector hospital and is located at Rafqui Shaheed Road. Many public vehicles block the entry and exit gate of this hospital and it is very difficult for patients to enter the hospital.

“It is therefore requested that Traffic Department may please be directed to organize the vehicular traffic and keep the gates accessible for patients to this prestigious institute.”

JPMC Joint Executive Director Dr Seemin Jamali, while talking to the media, said the illegal parking of auto-rickshaws and taxis outside the healthcare was causing serious inconvenience to visiting patients, attendants and medical staff. She said the traffic jams have become common outside the institution during rush hours due to illegal parking.

She said that the massive traffic jam outside the hospital in rush hours was not only causing hindrance in the movement of ambulances carrying patients but also creating problems to people being rushed to the hospital’s emergency.

She urged the relevant authorities to immediately take notice of the situation and remove illegal taxi and auto-rickshaw stands outside the hospital and depute traffic officials to maintain flow of traffic in rush hours. She said that the Traffic DIG has positively responded the administration and there was hope that the traffic situation would improve within a few days.
