A 12-member delegation of Qatari royals, including Prince Shaikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Hamad bin Abdullah bin Jassim bin Muhammed Al Thani, arrived on Saturday in Lahore.

The timing of the delegation’s arrival appears to be crucial — comes as it does in the wake of the counsel for the premier’s sons presenting a letter from Prince Jassim before the Supreme Court pertaining to the Panamagate probe.

The delegation led by Hadi Al-Muzaffar was received by Punjab Minister Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s son, Hasan Nawaz, and taken to the Sharif’s Jati Umra residence.

It is pertinent to mention here that on November 15, submitting documentary evidence on the ‘legitimacy’ of their assets before the Supreme Court Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his daughter, Maryam Nawaz, claimed their London apartment was bought through Qatari investments. PM Nawaz’s children’s counsel Akram Sheikh submitted the letter from Qatari Prince to the top court’s larger bench.

According to the letter written by Prince Hamad Bin Jassim bin Jaber Al-Thani, “Mian Muhammad Sharif sold his business in Dubai in the early 1980s and invested 12 million Qatari Dirhams in the real estate business of the Al-Thani family in Qatar. Flats number 17, 17a, 16 and 16a at Avenfield House, Park Lane, London which are now owned by the Sharif family were registered in the names of two offshore companies and were purchased from the proceedings of the real estate business.”

“Later in 2006, the accounts in relation to the above investment were settled between Mr Hussain Nawaz Sharif and the Al-Thani family, who then delivered the bearer shares of the companies [which owned the flats] to a representative of Mr Hussain Nawaz Sharif”, the letter said.

The opposition, including Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has questioned the sudden entry of the Qatar prince in the Panama Leaks case.

It was told that the prince was fond of hunting and was here in Pakistan on a personal visit.
