A two-day workshop on “Sustainable Development and Environment Protection” began at the Institute of Sustainable Halophyte Utilization (ISHU), University of Karachi in collaboration with Pakistan Academy of Sciences on Saturday.
On the first day, Prof Dr Hans-Werner Koyro from Geissen University, Germany, trained research students on modern techniques used in ecophysiology and agronomy of salt tolerant plants. This research would help in developing new salt tolerant crops for the arid saline regions. Young researchers took keen interest in the workshop content. On the second day, Prof Dr Xiao Jin Liu from China, Dr Benno Boer from Ethiopia and eminent Pakistani scientists will highlight the agronomic aspects of non-conventional crops and saline agriculture.
