The National Institute of Historical and Cultural Research (NIHCR) will host the 24th conference of International Association of Historians of Asia (IAHA) from December  5th at a hotel here, said NIHCR Officer Incharge Syed Umar Hayat on Wednesday.

Talking to the press, he said that conference would be hosted on the theme of ‘Asian History, Culture and Environment: Vernacular and Oriental Paradigms’.

IAHA President Dr Sajid Mahmood Awan disclosed that more than 300 international and national academicians and researchers from universities and independent organisations have been invited to attend the IAHA Conference 2016.

The IAHA was set up in 1960 with the primary purpose of promoting research on the history of Asia and the wider world. The IAHA conferences have been held frequently since its inception to provide a platform for Asian and other historians to meet and share their expertise, he said.

Venues of the conference keep rotating around Asia, along with the office of the IAHA president. Hence during this tenure, the IAHA Secretariat shifted to Pakistan under the presidency of Dr Awan in the National Institute of Historical and Cultural Research (NIHCR), Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad.

The conference is being held in collaboration with Quaid-i-Azam University, the Higher Education Commission, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University, Peshawar, People Empowering and Development Alternatives (PEDA), and others.

The conference will also try to serve as a platform for discussion and deliberation of challenges and the future of history, historiography, and heritage of Asia in particular and the world in general.
