Polling for by-election in Punjab Assembly constituency PP-78 Jhang is in progress on Thursday (Today).
The polling began at 8 am and will continue till 5 pm without any break.
The seat was left vacant after PML-N’s candidate Rashida Yaqoob was disqualified by Supreme Court over concealing assets.
Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) Sarfraz Rabbani, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s (PTI) Sheikh Arfa Majeed, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) Haji Azad Nasir Ansari, independent candidate Maulana Masroor Nawaz Jhangvi, Mohammad Arif aka Madam Bota from transgender community among others are comepeting in the election.
Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has declared 17 polling stations as highly sensitive and 154 others as sensitive.
At least 171 presiding officers, 418 assistant presiding officers and polling officers have been deployed in the constituency.
Besides this, Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN) has deployed 34 non-partisan observers for the by-election.
The government has taken strict security measures to maintain law and order during the election.
The number of registered voters in the constituency are 216,562 include 118,687 male and 97,935 female while 171 polling stations and 418 polling booths have been set up.
