‘Progress in eight blocks of Thar coalfield encouraging’

Various government bodies and private companies are working in eight blocks of the Thar coalfield and the results have so far been encouraging, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah told Federal Privatisation, Water and Power Minister Syed Naveed Qamar on Saturday.
According to an official handout, the federal minister had called on the provincial chief executive at the Chief Minister’s House. Both leaders discussed various projects including Thar coal and energy project in detail and reaffirmed that the work being executed on Thar project will be accelerated to enhance the process of gasification and power generation, which is essential for progress and prosperity of the province.
Shah said that different firms are engaged in provision of basic infrastructure for the project, including roads, communication facilities, airport, potable water etc, in order to attract intending investors.
He said that a group of Chinese delegates had recently visited the Sindh province and were briefed in detail about facts and figures and the incentives in Thar coal and energy project. The Chinese group will submit its report after completion of a formal feasibility to participate in development activities at Thar, he added.
Both leaders hoped that the gasification and power generation will soon begin from Thar project and the dream of Shaheed Mohtarama Benazir Bhutto will materialise. The chief minister further said that the Thar energy project will not only fulfil the requirements of power of the country but also help in ending load shedding and unemployment in the province, ultimately assisting in poverty alleviation.
The federal minister, meanwhile, presented the problems being faced by the people of his constituency to which the chief minister assured that the issues will be resolved soon.
Sindh Information and Archives Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon also called on the provincial chief minister and discussed the issues related to the Sindh Information Department.
