Defence Minister Khawaja Asif on Monday said the new leadership of Pakistan Army should carry forward the success and legacy of outgoing Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif.
Asif said the Pakistan Army has been fighting an ongoing war against terrorism successfully. “The completion of these ‘campaigns’ would be the responsibility of the new Army chief,” he added.
The war against terrorism, situation along the Line of Control (LoC) and Working Boundary, and alleged Indian aggression in Pakistan through Afghanistan, would be the main tasks of the new army chief, the defence minister said.
The Pakistan Army and its new chief will have to carry forward the tradition of success maintained during the last three years of Gen Raheel’s tenure. He further added that the institution had earned good will and respect, which must be upheld.
“No other country in the world can claim such success in the war against terrorism that has been achieved by the Pakistan Army,” Asif stated.
