HBO have confirmed they are in ‘preliminary talks’ with Game Of Thrones creator George R.R Martin about making a prequel to the hit series.

The network’s programming president Casy Bloys confirmed that he’s in favour of a well thought-out spin-off. “I would say it’s still kind of preliminary ongoing talks,” he said.

“There are areas we are exploring, but I wouldn’t point to any one and say, ‘This is what we’re going to do,’” he added.

When asked if season eight will contain six episodes and if they will be screened in the cinema, Bloy gave an ambiguous reply. “I want everything I can get for HBO, I’ll just leave it at that,” he said.

Previously, executive producer David Benioff clearly stated that HBOwon’t be making anything else once the final two seasons have aired. However, Martin shared that he will not be quitting the Game of Thrones world any time soon and has shared that fans of the series can still enjoy new material in written form.

Game of Thrones will be returning next summer for its seventh season which will have seven episodes.
