Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique on Monday directed the authorities to vacate the encroachments near railways track on emergency basis to ensure safety and avoid any possible accident.
He was addressing a special meeting convened at Pakistan Railways Headquarters in Lahore.
The meeting reviewed different aspects regarding passengers and trains safety. The meeting also decided to decrease the minimum period for the physical test of train drivers from three years to one year and make the required amendments in rules and regulations.
The minister was of the view that passengers’ safety was the prime responsibility of the railways administration for which Pakistan Railways will hire services of specialists to test the physical and psychological health of the drivers.
