Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS)’s administration has established a pathology department replacing the city’s only Liver Transplant Centre (LTC) that was set up in haste just to receive praise.

The centre that was established with Rs200 million in June 2011 has failed to fulfil its purpose due to financial constraints and a shortage of experts.

State Minister Dr Fazal Chaudhy will inaugurate the new centre today (Friday).

Dr Altaf stated that the institute would be ideal on the directions of State Minister Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry regarding the health reforms of the prime minister.

He stated that considering the people’s problems a new digital lab centre of pathology department has been established so that patients could easily collect their samples and reports.

The administrator told Online that six counters have been established in the centre for male and female patients, adding that the groundbreaking ceremony of Out Patient Department (OPD) will take place soon.

  1. It is matter of great national pride that a hospital in Pakistan (Shifa International Hospital Islamabad) has so far performed more than 340 living donor liver transplant surgeries in Pakistan. The center was established in 2012 and since it has been performing the transplant surgeries as per International standards & parameters of success. There are still a lot of patients who are advised by Medical agencies and agents to visit Indian hospitals as Indian hospitals provide commission and financial incentive to these agents.1I just would like to advice all the patients who have been recommended Liver Transplant to first visit Shifa International Hospital and then decide about their options for treatment. http://www.shifa.com.pk/livertransplant
