The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday issued notices to the intelligence agencies and the provincial Home secretary in two separate cases of missing persons.
A division bench comprising Justice Gulzar Ahmed and Justice Shahid Anwer Bajwa heard a petition filed by Ms Fatima seeking the whereabouts of her husband and issued notices to the federal intelligence agencies, while the single bench of Justice Athar Saeed issued notices to the Sindh Home Department secretary and the Intelligence Bureau (Sindh) director on a petition moved by Ms Asma Jamal seeking the whereabouts of her husband.
In the latter petition, the court also directed the Deputy Inspector General of Police-West Zone to ensure no police official harasses the petitioner or her family members. On Friday, almost all proceedings were suspended at the SHC as the majority of judges had left for Islamabad for the Judicial Commission meeting.
Fatima in her petition stated that on February 11, some unidentified persons had come to her house posing as Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) employees and took her husband, Ramzan, outside for examining the electricity meter. However, her neighbours later informed her that those persons had forcibly taken away Ramzan, she added.
The petitioner stated that her husband was shifted to an unknown location and since then she is unaware about his whereabouts. In the other petition, Jamal had stated that her husband named Khizar Jamal has been missing since December 12, 2010 and she doubted the law enforcement agencies of picking up her husband.
