Rahim Swati, main accused in the murder case of Orangi Pilot Project (OPP) Driector Parveen Rehman, was indicted on Tuesday by an anti-terrorism court (ATC).
According to the police, Rahim Swati along with five accomplices had murdered Parveen Rehman in 2013. Rahim Swati refused to accept the charges against him.
Swati, the prime suspect in the Parveen Rehman murder case, was arrested in the first week of May this year. He was booked under Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act (7-ATA), as well as Section 353, 324 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).
The ATC judge read out the charges against the accused persons, however they pleaded not guilty and opted to contest the case. The court directed prosecution to produce witnesses in the next hearing.
Two fugitives in the case, Noor Muhammad and Ahsan-ud-Din have been declared absconders by the ATC. OPP Director Parveen Rehman was gunned down in a targeted attack near the Banaras fly-over in March 2013. Rehman was a vocal activist working against land and water mafia in the city.
