An Ahle-Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) leader Taj Muhammad Hanfi has been put under house arrest for 30 days, a local news channel reported on Monday.

The Sindh home department has issued a notification in this regard.

The decision of the provincial government comes two days after law enforcement agencies arrested Shia cleric Mirza Yousuf and former Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) senator Faisal Raza Abidi.

Earlier, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah while commenting on Abidi’s arrest, said he was arrested for possessing illegal weapons, while Mirza Yousuf was detained in different cases already registered against him.

Shah dispelled the impression that any specific community or sect is being targeted in Karachi operation, and claimed that the action was only being taken against those found involved in terrorism.

The chief minister appealed to the citizens to cooperate with law enforcement agencies in the ongoing operation against criminals.
