An international dental conference under the theme “Dentistry in the era of Globalization” was launched at the Expo Centre on Friday under the aegis of the Institute of Advanced Dental Sciences and Research (IADSR) and Sensodyne.
Dentist Rubina Mumtaz stressed the need for spreading awareness about oral health and hygiene across the country. She said in Pakistan, oral health care was virtually non-existent especially in the rural areas where more than 70 per cent of the population lived.
She praised Sensodyne for holding such an event.
GSK Oral Care Brand Manager Hafsa Farooqui said GSK was proud to be associated with forums that aspired to promote oral health practices and habits across the country.
The event attracted more than 1,500 national and international delegates and showcased 10 academic sessions and 10 accompanying pre and post-conference workshops encompassing clinical dentistry, research, dental education and faculty development.
The sessions were purely academic based on the problems faced by the general dental practitioners in routine practice and highlighted expert solutions by the specialists.
The keynote speakers of the conference included dentists from Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, Hong Kong and Qatar. The conference hosted academicians, researchers and scholars from various different fields of dentistry who had come together to promote dental education in Pakistan.
The dental conference also entailed a Dental Trade Exhibition where more than 100 exhibitors showcased dental equipment, technological instruments, implants and latest dental materials. The three day conference will also host various researches and quiz competitions related to dentistry for the undergraduate, postgraduate and medical practitioners.
