  1. Railway accidents are becoming far too frequent in Pakistan, causing deaths and injuries which could have been avoided with a bit of seriousness demonstrated by the government.

In the latest accident, Fareed Express, waiting for the signal to enter Landhi station, was hit from the back by Zikria Express. The toll is 20 dead already, with another 60 injured, and there are fears of deaths rising due to serious condition of many of the injured.

We have a railway minister Khawaja Saad Rafique who acts more as a Court Jester and PML-N spokesman and has little time left to attend to railway matters. Even in India, railway ministers are known to have resigned after serious accidents but not our one who takes all these accidents in his stride and gets ever stronger.

Among the many curses brought by Nawaz Sharif on Pakistan and Pakistanis, apart from himself of course, we can count the appointment of Khawaja Saad Rafique and Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan as railway and interior minister respectively, not that other ministers and officials are any better with rare exceptions, if any, which I doubt very much.
