Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Tuesday filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking an end to police siege outside his residence at Bani Gala.

The petition, which makes the Prime Minister, the Interior Ministry and Islamabad Inspector General a party, seeks an end to the ‘house arrest’ of Imran Khan and his workers at his residence.

Imran Khan has also requested the court to stop the government from arresting party workers and blocking roads leading to Islamabad and Bani Gala in an attempt to prevent PTI workers from reaching the capital.

Earlier today PTI also challenged the Islamabad High Court’s (IHC) ruling on the planned November 2 ‘lockdown’ in the Supreme Court. The petition, filed by PTI lawyer Faisal Hussain, claims that the IHC decision negates citizens’ basic rights.

The petition also states that the Supreme Court dismissed earlier petitions against the sit-in on October 20 because they had been filed too far ahead of time.

IHC had ruled on Monday that PTI will not be allowed to lock down the capital; instead, the party can hold the protest in a designated space only, the court had said.

On Monday Imran Khan had alleged that his party workers were being kidnapped and demanded that the Supreme Court take Suo Moto notice.
