Department of Archaeology and Museums (DOAM) have been successfully continuing the survey work of archaeological sites at Zone-IV of federal capital to find potential sites for documentation, excavation and preservation.
Talking to agencies, DOAM’s Director Archaeology Abdul Azeem said the team of archaeological experts had so far identified eight archaeological sites in Zone-IV and the survey was in progress in different areas.
The experts have so far discovered historical monuments, worship places of Sikh community before partition, mosques from Mughal period, remains of Buddhist period and a memorial of British period wars.
Abdul Azeem, project head, said Zone IV of Islamabad is the biggest zone and the archaeological survey in this area was likely to be completed by the end of this year.
He said the first-ever archaeological survey in federal capital was initiated to find the potential sites for excavation, documentation and preservation to protect the precious heritage.
The archaeological survey team was comprised of archaeological experts, photographers, draftsmen and other necessary staff who were recording the details of the sites for documentation and finding potential sites for excavation.
He said Assistant Directors, Mehmood Shah and Asadullah were also part of the team which was conducting the survey.
The students of Hazara University and Quaid-i-Azam University also accompanied the team on sites.
The cost of project, Abdul Azeem said PC-I of the project worth Rs4 million was already submitted to the concerned department for approval.
However they had been granted Rs0.15million by the National History and Literary Heritage Division to start the survey work.
